Depression, low self-esteem, stress, bereavement, anxiety or panic attacks, poor communication skills, anger issues, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, phobias, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addictions or self-harm.

About Vix

Vix has a degree in Psychology in addition to her Post Graduate Diploma in Human Givens. She offers practical and effective support to enable people to feel better and move on with their lives as quickly as possible. She teaches people the skills and techniques that enable them to cope with stress and difficult situations; at home, work or school, helping to increase confidence and resilience. She works with compassion for all those needing help, both adults and the young, whatever the issue and is particularly passionate about supporting those effected by domestic abuse and the effects of PTSD.

Most sessions last between 60-90 minutes and generally clients can expect to have a maximum of 8 sessions, but most people have between 3 to 6. The aim will be to help you to feel better and bring about lasting positive change in as few sessions as possible. Each client’s needs are different, but Vix’s aim is always to help her clients see some improvement and regain a sense of hope after the very first session.

Human Givens

About Human Givens' method of therapy

The Human Givens approach is a set of organising ideas that provides a holistic, scientific framework for understanding the way that individuals and society work. This framework encompasses the latest scientific understandings from neurobiology and psychology, as well as ancient wisdom and original new insights.

At its core is a highly empowering idea – that human beings, like all organic beings, come into this world with a set of needs. If those needs are met appropriately, it is not possible to be mentally ill. Perhaps no more powerful a statement could ever be made about the human condition: If human beings' physical and psychological needs are met healthily and in balance, they won't get depressed; they cannot have psychosis; they cannot be in the grip of addictions.

To get our physical and emotional needs met, nature has gifted us our very own internal 'guidance programme' – this, together with our needs, makes up what we call the human givens. We come into the world with an instinctive knowledge of what we need and with a set of inner resources that can help us get our needs met, provided we use them properly and are living in a healthy environment.

The Human Givens framework enables us to see where a person's life is not working well and to tailor solutions for each individual using a combination of effective psychological interventions (as taught by Human Givens College), education and direct practical help, as appropriate. The insights the approach brings into what we all need to live fulfilled, satisfying lives also brings clarity to the much-used phrase 'wellbeing' and points to concrete ways of achieving and maintaining such a state.

The often startling success produced by the efficacy, adaptability and practical nature of the human givens approach and the new insights and models for effective therapy it encompasses, is borne out by the speed at which the approach is moving into new areas, ranging from psychotherapy, education and social work to international diplomatic relations and the corporate world of business For more information visit www.hgi.org.uk

What you can expect from a session?

The initial session includes a short assessment of needs as well as therapeutic input and may last up to one and a half hours. Each subsequent session lasts up to an hour.

No two individuals are the same, nor are their problems. Sessions are client-led and tailor-made to his/her specific needs.

How many sessions will I need?

Vix always aims to resolve the client’s issues in as few sessions as possible. The number of sessions required will obviously vary according to individual needs and the complexity of the problem. However, most clients require between four and eight sessions and generally report some improvement after just one.

How often do the sessions take place?

This is flexible according to need and is usually negotiated after the first session. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, whereas others may want to book fortnightly or even monthly. Clients are free to end the process at any stage. They do not have to agree to a fixed number of sessions, or to block book in advance.

Where do the sessions take place?

Vix runs a growing private practice south of Salisbury and works from a quiet and secluded therapy room in the grounds of her home, however she is willing to travel to see clients when required.
